PUBLICITY BIO

Curt Hendley was born to in the bustling city of Beaumont, Texas, where he and his parents, Jim and Regina, lived for six months until they moved to the sprawling metropolis of Mabank, Texas. It was there, at the age of three, that Curt got his first taste of performing.

“My dad was the music director at our church,” Curt said. “On the way to a Sunday evening service one week, I asked him if I could sing a song for the congregation. So when we got there, he stood me up on the pulpit, and I sang. Even at that age, I saw and understood how much a good performance could affect an audience.”

From that moment on, Curt performed in every capacity and at every opportunity he could find, from school plays to original puppet shows in the family room.

Beginning at age 11, he began focusing his creativity on music and writing. He learned to play the clarinet in the school band and sang in choirs at both church and school. He also began seriously studying the craft of writing, often infuriating his teachers by turning in essays and stories they didn’t assign instead of the homework they expected.

“That was a great time for me, artistically,” Curt said. “I kind of withdrew from the world and immersed myself in the study of written expression and pretty much ignored everything else. I nearly failed sixth grade (and seventh, and eighth…) because of it, but I learned way more about dedication and passion for a craft than any of my straight-A classmates.”

Then, when Curt was a senior in high school (an honor student and band president by then) he traveled on a class trip to San Francisco, where he saw a production of Les Miserables. It changed his life.

“Until then, I had forgotten the power of theater,” he said. “I just remember during the final number, how I was standing, crying, shaking, tingling all over. It was like nothing I’d ever experienced. It’s been years, and I still get that feeling whenever I think about it.”

Just as he had immersed himself in writing before, he further dedicated himself to music and acting after that, declaring a music major in college before eventually graduating with a degree in journalism. In recent years, however, his pursuits have turned almost exclusively to acting. He has been studying constantly from anyone and everyone who will teach him, whether in a class, on a set, or in a book. He has been performing at every opportunity in both live theater and film. Whenever things get slow and there’s no acting work to be found, he returns to an old passion and writes material that he produces himself.

He now lives with his wife Elizabeth and their two children Joel and Amelia, ages one and two, in Plugerville, Texas. He’s excited to be part of such a vibrant acting scene in Austin.
